Midtown frankly is the place to be if you’ve a mind to hit up New York’s most well-known landmarks. The flashing assault of the neon lights of Times Square is plenty close at just a couple blocks away from Night Hotel and with it, Broadway’s collection of theaters within walking distance. Craving a bit of shopping? Fifth Avenue---and Saks Fifth Avenue, for only one---is only 10 minutes away on foot (save the cab ride for when you’re weighed down in bags). In fact, you can easily walk to Bryant Park, the New York Public Library, Grand Central, the Empire State Building, and the Chrysler Building within 20 minutes if you head south and to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Carnegie Hall and the Museum of Modern Art if you head north.
Imagine if all the perceived glitz of Times Square was thrown into one hotel---in black. It’s a dramatic concept, to be sure, but we find ourselves perfectly entranced by this bichromatic antithesis to NYC’s tourist mecca. Very deliberately, the atmosphere leans towards the dark, brooding side dripping in glitz and mystery. Slink on through the lobby’s tunnel (of sorts---the curved uplit ceiling suggests the effect) to the bar and restaurant, Red Moon where those in-the-know enjoy light Asian fare in the polished back room (or order up for the ever-rare find of sushi as standard room service). Every space in the Night is consciously cultivated as a space in which to be seen or to steal away to your own private corner. It’s always Night here.
The super vampy vibe is enhanced all the more with dim, theatrical lighting clearly intended to cultivate mystery rather than certainty. While some come here to stay on business, the lack of a large writing desk encourages you to look elsewhere for something to do. The bed is by far and away the central feature of the room with an oversized pseudo-clamshell black leather headboard and glowing underside that almost makes the bed seem as though it’s resting on light. The custom black-and-white carpet is a glamorous touch and actually pairs nicely with the white-and-black thistle wallpaper and curtains. The completely over-the-top penthouse with its circular bed, private terrace and cabana, and uber-modern style is sure to seduce anyone who loves the glamour of New York and the exclusivity inherent in having your very own spacious penthouse suite.
Night Hotel strikes a seductive chord for those in search of New York’s sexier side of Midtown. If it’s not black, it’s white...if it’s not day, it’s Night.
