The Scene

If there’s a middle to Midtown, we’re pretty sure that’s where The Michelangelo New York is. With Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and the Museum of Modern Art all within a 5 minute walk, we’re hard-pressed to think of a more connected place you could possibly be in NYC. Since it’s poised on the northern end of Times Square, there’s an air of luxury that pervades the atmosphere---perhaps it’s the top shops of 5th Avenue being so close by? Or perhaps it’s all the world-class shows going on within a 5-block radius (spanning from Carnegie Hall to plenty of Broadway theaters)? Maybe it’s all the celebrity-chef restaurants. Whatever you’re looking for in New York, you’ll find it in and around the Michelangelo.

The Concept

After a very successful run in Italy and Paris, The Michelangelo brought its trademark luxury to New York City. It fits right into Midtown with its opulence and gilded Neoclassical style with marble and rich reds abounding. The Insieme bar and lounge is tucked behind velvet seating in the lobby, providing just the right amount of intimacy yet chance to peer into the lobby to see who’s coming and going. The light bites served all day also include gelato (why don’t more hotels do this?); between that and the extravagant atmosphere, we won’t blame you for wanting to while the day away here. The Michelangelo New York also takes special care of its guests in the morning, starting your day off in a very European way with delicious artisan coffee and fresh pastries. Yet the true jewel of The Michelangelo is its staff: from the Clefs D’Or concierges to the affable front desk, avail yourself of them and you’re sure to have a one-of-a-kind New York experience.

The Look

The room size alone is sheer luxury for New York; it’s incredibly rare to find a basic room that start at 450 square feet, much less one that’s so comfortably appointed. The sumptuous velvet and luscious colors worked into the design are wonderful and complement the soft, warm carpet that really brings a delightful feeling of quiet to the room (not to mentions it’s positively spotless). Some may find the style to be on the heavy side or over-the-top, but we think it’s all part of the charm and reflects The Michelangelo New York’s gracious Italian hospitality. Our favorite room is the One Bedroom Suite which we fancy our plush NYC pad; we simply love the upscale home-y feeling (especially the library that serves as a headboard for the bed).
