The Scene

The Pelican's location on Ocean Drive means that there are a multitude of Miami experiences at your doorstep. Lounge at the beach (take advantage of the complimentary beach towel and chair), satisfy your hunger at the Pelican's acclaimed Restafé (in-house), shop a few streets away on Lincoln Road (or anywhere in between), and party at any of the numerous (and nearby) nightclubs. Everything is within reach at the Pelican.

The Concept

The Pelican calls South Beach home not just because of the beach and grade A location but rather because SoBe's attitude suits it. The types that live there are truly cut from a different cloth, expecting more from life and never, ever settling for ordinary. Designer Magnus Ehrland scoured flea markets, antique shops, and wacky stores throughout the state to inject a distinctly Florida style in each of the 29 rooms (including two coveted penthouse suites) while still sticking to the room's clearly-defined theme. Ehrland ties it all together with Diesel style--there's a heavy industrial influence reminiscent of Diesel in every bathroom--and cheeky kitsch.

The Look

The room themes are varied and unexpected; the most popular is Room 215, a bordello-inspired look called the "Best Whorehouse." Find yourself transported to places outside of South Beach with rooms like "Cubarean Islands" and "Viva Las Vegas." Several rooms are themed from particular decades, like "Executive Fifties" and "Executive Sixties" or "Deco(intreau)" and "Deco(cocktail)." Featured amenities include C.O. Bigelow bath products and a Sleep on Green organic mattress system.

Diesel's adventurous incursion into boutique hotels sent shockwaves through the fashion world; after the opening of the Pelican in 1994, a flurry of other design houses suddenly announced their own, but few have matched the Pelican's allure and continued success.
