If it’s luxury you’re after, it doesn’t get any better than Champs-Elysees. Hotel de Sers is one block over from the Triangle d’Or (Golden Triangle) where France’s top shops are based. It’s a lively area at just about any hour, but there’s plenty to do and see if you’re looking to get out and see the sights. From the rooftop, the Eiffel Tower may look deceptively far, but in truth you’re naught but a 10 minute walk away.
Originally a grand Parisian pied-a-terre for the Marquis de Sers, the Hotel de Sers strikes a polished balance between its history and its modern identity. It certainly still retains its aristocratic grandeur despite having gone through a number of identities (one of which was hospital) but has been graciously ushered into today with poise and grace. Portraits of the Marquis and his family still line the hallway that now serves as a stylish lobby along which you’ll also find the restaurant, bar, and terrace. If you’re a fan of molecular gastronomy, you’ll be very pleased to visit the Restaurant de Sers headed by chef Christophe Hay. If the weather is nice, terrace seating is not to be missed; not only are you surrounded by a haven of green, but also you can see the kitchen through a well-placed window.
Christophe Daudré uses a deft hand in his décor, keeping it at once bold yet also elegant and refined. Daudré balances a classic palette of red and black with modern furniture. Accent fabrics pop with bright colors like pink and yellow and bright floral patterns that are the perfect foil to the white stone walls. The rooms are generously-sized by Parisian standards and not at all cluttered by furniture or tchotchkes. The junior room is great for families with younger children to spread out a bit more, but the panoramic suites blow everything else out of the water in terms of amenities and view. There’s tons of space in the room, but also in the bathroom and enormous soak tub. The view is what really seals the deal: expect bits and pieces of Paris from the Sacre Couer to the Eiffel Tower.
Thanks to its refreshing and innovative atmosphere, Hotel de Sers is a favorite of the traveler in search of style, comfort, and history rolled into one.
