The Scene

Set away from the mayhem that can be South Beach on quiet Belle Island (but within a short walk), the tropical location adds to the retreat feel of this spa-driven hotel. Although in actuality not far removed from Miami's main attractions, the break from the main South Beach drag creates an extra level of tranquility for those seeking an escape without compromising a stellar location. You can still quickly and conveniently access either downtown Miami or just as easily get to Miami Beach by hopping on the Venetian Causeway. (We recommend renting bikes or mopeds.)

The Concept

The Standard plunges you into the ultimate spa experience to make you feel the sexiest you've ever been. Simultaneously relaxing and invigorating, expect to find exactly what you need to kickstart and rejuvenate yourself. The hotel's Hydrotherapy Playground has a feature for everyone--including a Sound Shower, a co-ed Turkish hammam, soaking tubs, and even a Scotch hose to rinse you off after a mud treatment. Bucking the idea that spas are simply for relaxation, the Standard encourages you to get physical: go paddleboarding on Biscayne Bay or biking in South Beach, or try the several types of yoga classes available (including sunset yoga, which is offered on the dock), or hook up with a physical trainer to get sweating. Even mental wellness is covered with life coaching classes and more (just ask the spa concierge). But make no mistake--the Standard offers complete spa services from massages to manicures to put the finishing touches on you. For food to match the hotel's fresh lifestyle, executive chef Mark Zeitouni serves up Mediterranean-inspired dishes emphasizing wholesome, fresh foods at Lido Restaurant & Bayside Grill. Expect also to encounter a buzzy pool scene, particularly on weekends when live DJs come on.

The Look

The sheer amount of choice in treatments can seem overwhelming, but the Standard provides a relaxing, tranquil retreat in all its rooms and common areas. Colors are muted but linens are lush and beds comfortable. The frills are deliberately minimal, but key amenities include custom organic bath products and super-cozy robes to cover up (but only if you want to--the hotel is strictly adults-only). The lobby is made for hanging out, providing inviting seating for lounging and splashes of color on the walls; the gardens as well serve the same purpose but add a tropical touch, surrounding such areas as the Shady Swing Lounge and Solar Circle with verdant, lush vegetation.
