Between 17th and 18th Streets on Collins Avenue is some of the best and most exclusive nightlife and most sought-after restaurants Miami has to offer---and as a guest of the Redbury, you have access to it all. Take advantage of priority access not just to the clubs (like Hyde Beach at the SLS) and beach chairs via The Raleigh Hotel but also to the fine dining available in the area. Mediterranean transplant from the original Redbury super-close Raleigh (Restaurant Michael Schwartz) and SLS Hotel (Katsuya by Starck, The Bazaar by Jose Andres). If you can be tempted to venture beyond this stellar stretch, you’re a quick walk from Lincoln Road, the Fillmore (one of Miami’s top live music venues which the Redbury draws considerable inspiration from), and of course shopping.
The Redbury South Beach retains a great deal of creative director Matthew Ralston’s theatrical aesthetic from its sister hotel in Los Angeles yet cultivates its atmosphere from the Miami music scene of the 1950s and 1960s. To merely invoke the “Rat Pack” as a descriptor is to sell the concept woefully short no matter how accurate it is---indeed, The Redbury South Beach draws heavily on this era for its design and in-room music selection---but its connections with Miami are what make it stand out. Its in-house Mediterranean restaurant Cleo (a la the Queen of the Nile) and the intimate rooftop pool make The Redbury a perfect place to start your day (or night). As a guest of The Redbury, you also have access to other SBE properties (The Raleigh Hotel, SLS South Beach) and their own host of popular upscale local eateries and coveted beach access (complete with towel and chairs). While The Raleigh has a beautiful pool (which you also have access to!), we’re rather fond of the intimacy provided at The Redbury; it’s a lovely foil to the crowds of the rest of the area and gives us the sense of being in a lounge from yesteryear.
Common areas rely on a classic palette of black and white with theatrical pops of red, but the rooms take a decidedly different tack. 1960s posters advertising the likes of The Doors from the nearby Fillmore bedeck the walls with bright colors and inviting you to put a record on (literally) and remember days gone by. (By the way, we think you’d be remiss not to take advantage of the record player and collection in your room.) The otherwise neutral palette is perfect for relaxing and plays up the beauty of the views outside your window which may overlook Collins Avenue (yet remains blissfully quiet for a streetside room). The beds aren’t just the focal feature of the room but are truly some of the most comfortable we have ever encountered and adds physicality to the airy feel of the room.
Normally we’re not great fans of amenities outsourced to other hotels…but it works for this one ever so well. The Redbury South Beach is joined at the hip with Miami itself; the hotel provides a classic vintage hideaway from the bustle of SoBe while its additional perks through other hotels gives guests a fantastic sense of integration with the South Beach scene.
