Nolitan

The Scene

Nolita, which stands for North of Little Italy, is one of New York City’s micro-neighborhoods and though small, it’s chock full of personality and things to explore like hip boutiques, cozy eateries and private night spots. Also, you’re only a few minutes away from Soho, the Lower East Side, Chinatown and the East Village. The area is great for walking, but you can borrow a bicycle or a skateboard from the hotel if you prefer, or catch the subway a block away.

The Concept

The Nolitan is one of those hotels that know how to perfectly cultivate a connection with the neighborhood it’s in; it is proud to be in Nolita (hence its name) and will make you feel like a true New Yorker, partly because of its location on the mostly residential Kenmare street. That’s not the only reason, however. Cantine Parisienne, the on-site restaurant, also adds great local flavor (no pun intended) as it attracts Manhattanites of all walks of life looking for…an authentic Nolitan experience, of course. The welcoming, friendly staff also adds an important layer of genuine hospitality that never feels overbearing or fake. And small touches like the abundance of rentals available (bicycle, skateboard, iPad, Xbox…), a yoga mat in your room, bath products by a neighborhood organic boutique, and a very private rooftop sun deck, make you feel cool and special in an unfussy kind of way.

The Look

The overall aesthetic, conceived by New York City architects Grzywinski+Pons, is industrial chic and relies on clean lines and materials such as exposed concrete, deliberately-unfinished European Oak floors and glass---particularly in rooms which feature floor-to-ceiling windows affording sweeping city and skyline views. And while the design is modern, the hotel never loses its homey feel. Expect the usual luxury amenities in rooms and bathrooms including rain showers and free standing tubs in most.
